RESEARCH PLAN
BACKGROUND
A well-established company launched a family and friends health tracking app three years ago. It is for both iOS and Android. The app allows users within a group (a family or group of friends) to see how others within the group are doing regarding health and fitness. Currently, there is no messaging feature within the product. The company would like to integrate messaging into the app.
BUSINESS GOALS
On average user engagement is heavy for the first three weeks then it drops off and soon after users delete the app.
My goal is to design new messaging features that create sustained engagement.
1. To create the opportunity for users to message each other with health and fitness goals/achievements.
2. To create an integrated messaging experience throughout the product drives
engagement and repeat usage

MY GOAL FOR THIS PROJECT
MY APPROACH TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS
RESEARCH
To validate the assumptions and to understand the idea of fitness for the users I’ll go into the research phase.
Methods
People may not be aware of better lifestyle practices.
Fitness normally pertains to physical appearance.
People normally take fitness as either weight-loss or muscle-up.
People do not take stress/ depression/ anxiety seriously and mostly are not even aware.
I looked up on google to get more knowledge about the fitness industry and listed the assumptions that I made :
Find out Why young people want to do exercise?
Figure out What concretely happens when they manage to do exercise.
What concretely happens when they don’t manage to do exercise.
Offer solutions to users that improve their health and life.
Product timeline, strategy, and learning.
I’ll move with Design thinking which is a holistic and non-linear approach as we know. It’s a continuous and iterative process by which I can improve each step by finding out needs from users. Design thinking approach will help me to understand users, define the problem, brainstorm the possible ideas and later prototype the idea and test it with users to find out their pain points and solve it, launch it in the market & make it more usable to them.
Survey
Interviews
QUANTITATIVE SURVEY
To learn about the user’s background, help in creating a customized solution.
To understand how much time a user has for his/her health.
To understand the micro habits of the user related to his/her health.
To understand the current awareness of the user related to his/her health.
To understand the exact problem the user faces.
QUALITATIVE SURVEY
After Quantitative survey, I’ll prepare questions and take user interviews to understand more of what problems the users face in this context and to focus on problems that I will be catering ahead.

QUANTITATIVE (SURVEY )
To learn about the user’s background; help in creating a customized solution.
To understand how much time a user has for his/her health.
To understand the micro habits of the user related to his/her health.
To understand the current awareness of the user related to his/her health.
To understand the exact problem the user faces.
To understand how they currently tackle these problems.
I realized that all of my initial assumptions were correct. Some more insights we got through this survey:
ANALYSIS
With regard to healthy habits, people primarily focussed on food habits and keeping themselves active.
No user stated any mental health issue faced by them, thus it shows that people are either not aware of any issue or they do not take it seriously.
For most people weight and inches were a measure of health. The second most common measure was how agile they are.
Users faced health issues like weight gain, body pain, etc and mostly they used home remedies or changes in their lifestyle.
Also, we found out that most of the users still have issues in finding time for their health.

QUALITATIVE (USER INTERVIEWS)
After that, I prepared questions and took user interviews to understand more of what problems the users face in this context and to focus on problems that we will be catering ahead.
ANALYSIS
Most of the users I interviewed were students. They took 30–60 mins to travel to their work location.
They tried eating healthy food and included fruits in their diet. 7 hours of sleep were taken by the user group.
Most users didn’t read anything on the internet, so there was a lack of awareness.
To manage the stress they did whatever made them happy like cooking, listening to music, or playing games.
The most common challenges faced by the users was related to their weight and having low stamina. They ate healthy food and did some sort of physical activity, workout or exercise to tackle these issues faced by them
Most of the users didn’t use any apps. And those who didn’t pay for any services.
1.How might we make them work on regular basis
2.How might we help users schedule for exercise?
3.How might we cooperate them for exercise plan?
4.How might we help them keep tracking fitness and health?
5.How might we help them to create a dietary chart for strength?
6.How might we Connect them with the community?
7.How might we guide them a proper way for fitness and exercise?
8.How might we Make them more cosistent on fitness?
9.How might we Offer them personalised training program?
10.How might we Make it more competitive for users to encourage to do more workout?
FEW HOW MIGHT WE QUESTIONS I BRAINSTORMED DURING THE PROCESS :
IDEATION
This stage gave me freedom to think, talk, discuss anything came across my mind regarding the problem. It’s is said that even a bad idea can lead to the best idea and solution.
In Ideation stage i used two methods to validate and find the answer:
1.Worst possible idea.
2.Challenge Assumptions.
I’m the only player for it that’s why i’d chosen worst possible idea. It’s fun generating ideas that going to support a better idea around it. Based on these i’d come up with few worst possible ideas:
Recommend toughest workout challange.
Urge them to do workout, fail to do that, they will lose account.
Make them connected with foodie person who want to leave
junk food and start fitnesss program.
Now it’s time to List the assumptions about the users
Listing assumption is another amazing method to find out answers by brainstroming setting a spefic timeframe like 5–10 minutes. Let’s see some Assumptions:
They shy enough to tell about early leave for exercise.
Unable to balance work and life due to multiple scheduled.
Buy materials for fitness activities.
Few of the challenge assumptions are following the assumption list:
How about challenging them?
What if They feel confident enough to do ask permission?
What if they listen music and discuss of various topics during the workout ?
What if manage a place to workout with good environment?
They will set a fixed schedule to do exercise with a limited time
Challenge friends to join and beat them.
Group exercise with leaderboard for competition.
After these steps still i found some ideas by challenging the assumptions and turned them into ideas like:

USER PERSONAS
The data collected during the first research phase helped me create a few user personas. Understanding the target audience allowed me to find out the main fitness goals and frustrations of users.

RESEARCH SYNTHESIS
After these steps still i found some ideas by challenging the assumptions and turned them into ideas like:
Fitness normally pertains to physical appearance.
Fitness goals are generally assumed as weight-loss or muscle-up.
Mental ailments like stress/ depression/ anxiety are not taken seriously and sometimes even considered taboo.
Lack of awareness for mental ailments.
Lack of time to track health.
Lack of a one-stop solution.
To view fitness as a wholesome lifestyle result.
People may not be aware of better lifestyle practices.
User cases:
How can I measure my health details?
How can I be updated on fitness?
How can I remain motivated towards my health?
How can I track my calorie intake?
How can I get healthy recipes?
How can I increase my stamina?
How can I figure out a diet plan?

INSIGHTS
First stage of design thinking i tried to talk to the young lads for what is their thinking, feeling, attitude, needs and wants, tried to understand their emotion. Hold an interview and survey on them to learn more about them and their behaviour & feeling.
Saturate space and group was the best idea to gather all insight in one place, i used them whenever i needed to and take look every time i step on new process to find answers of the problem. probably this is my favorite among all activities & techniques.
NEEDS
PAIN POINTS
Want to Prevent chronic diseases.
Improve health condition and immune system.
Track fitness activities.

Challenges for habituating routine.
User will experience the service by using an mobile app. I need to make sure that my designed digital experience is friendly, usable, desirable, creadible, accessible. Few Offering solutions based on user behavior, attitude, life-style, insights from research i’ve offering on this project are:
USER FLOW
After defining the “bigger picture” of the experience I needed to provide the users, I created a user flow by keeping personas in mind to make this experience of their goals. The point of this was to define the intended steps the users might take through various pages and actions on the app in order to complete their goal. Not only would this allow me to focus on what the users needed to accomplish, but also how to deliver that experience in the most effective manner possible when designing my app.

LOW FIDELITY DESIGNS
I start wireframing with sketches on the paper. I chose to start with the main screens. It helped me to figure out what layout would be the most comfortable for users and how to structure information. During this process, I consulted with developers to be on the same page about app vision and realization.

HIGH FIDELITY DESIGNS
After I’ve finished with sketched I had a clear vision about how to implement all features and created a satisfying structure for both users and business. Then I started the research part to find visual inspiration. And I chose a dark theme for our application to make less stress on eyes and bring unique feeling during usage experience.
USABILITY TEST SCRIPT
I’ve designed an app. Or maybe I’m looking to modify my app for the better. Whatever the case, the ability for new users to intuitively navigate around my design is crucial to a successful product. This is where user experience testing comes in, knowing specifically where and what can be improved can provide clarity. It can save me thousands of hours and dollars on problems that would otherwise be costly to solve.
I’ve incorporated moderated usability testing study, where I will directly interview users. Through my past projects experience , to some extent I know which types of questions to ask my participants that would offer the most feedback to improve product usability.
USABILITY TEST QUESTIONS
1) What parts of the mobile app did you like the most? Why?
2)What parts of the mobile app did you use the least? Why?
3)When was the last time you used the app?

WHAT DID I LEARN ?
While usability is a key component of the overall user experience, simplifying the login screen will make it more user-friendly while Menus and Navigation even more Simpler.
Most important pages in mobile app should be accessible so I don’t confuse users with complicated navigation bars.
Work on design patterns to reduce the learning curve for users and to make the mobile experience more intuitive.
Lessen the steps as much as possible cuz adding too many steps did annoy the user
Maintain the consistency in the navigation system so that it will provide consistency in User Experience.
